Cotton

Cotton yarn is a popular choice for a variety projects.  Some key characteristics of cotton yarns are that they are breathable, absorbent, soft, durable, inelastic and cool to the touch.   Cotton yarns are also mostly easy to care for and a good alternative for people who are sensitive to wool or synthetic fibres as it is hypoallergenic. 

Cotton yarns are a great choice for warm-weather garments and accessories as it allows air to circulate, keeping you cool and comfortable.  Plus, with it's natural softness, it makes garments made with cotton yarn comfortable to wear next to skin.  

Cotton yarn is also very absorbent which is ideal for items like dishcloths and towels.  It can absorb moisture without feeling overly wet.  Also being durable, it can withstand frequent washing and wear, making it a good choice for everyday items like market bags and kitchen textiles.

Cotton yarns are inelastic which means it doesn't stretch much.  This can be an advantage or disadvantage.  It helps to maintain the shape of the finished items, but it's less forgiving to work with.  Another thing to consider is the weight of cotton yarn.  It can be heavier than other fibres, so keep this in mind when making larger items.  The weight can provide a nice drape but can also add bulk.
