Lofoten Wool produces yarn from sheep reared within the Lofoten Islands and Northern Norway. We recognise the fantastic quality of our local wool and want to make this beautiful, versatile material available through our own range of sustainably produced products.
Why wool from Lofoten? Here, the animals graze on wild mountainsides and remote ocean islets during the light summer months. Fresh air, salt, seaweed and rich pastures (fertilized by sea birds) all contribute to high quality wool production.
Why choose wool? Wool is a wonderful raw material with qualities other textiles can only dream of. Wool is self-cleaning, flame and bacteria-retardant, temperature regulating and keeps you warm even when wet. Wool fibers are highly elastic and offer excellent shape retention with durability. In addition, wool is a 100% renewable resource.

Gul lunde is white lambswool from Vestvågøy in Lofoten dyed with tansy. Crossbred wool of Norwegian White Sheep.
Rød lunde is white lambswool from Vestvågøy in Lofoten dyed with madder root. Crossbred wool of Norwegian White Sheep.
Gress is Steingjerde wool that’s been plant dyed with tansy. The grey Steingjerde yarn is a blend of white wool from Lofoten, carded together with black sheep wool sourced from across Northern Norway. Crossbred wool from Norwegian white sheep.
Bølgeskvulp: Anniversary yarn color. 3-ply soft and light yarn from crossbred wool from Norsk Kvit Sau, plant dyed with indigo. One thread is Uttakleiv (white) and the other two threads are Steingjerde (white and gray wool carded together), so-called molined yarn.
Uttakleiv 2025: New clip from 2025. Natural white lambswool from our home island, Vestvågøya. The island is home to a group of discerning sheep farmers who are skilled in their breeding work, and make wool quality a primary focus. This is soft, gorgeous, first-class lamb wool. After a light wool wash it becomes softer whiter and airier! We advise you first knit a sample, wash and dry it, then measure and calculate the number of stitches to establish the right pin size before starting larger projects.

4 Favner is white lambwool from Vestvågøya dyed with indigo. Crossbred wool of Norwegian White Sheep.
